Let's talk about skincare & Confidence

Hello you gorgeous lot. I hope you're all having a great week so far. This comes to you from Paris where I'm having a little girls trip away with my best mate Laura. I can't wait to share a little Paris guide with you once I'm home!

Today I wanted to talk to you a little bit about my skin, the skincare I've finally settled on, and why it's important to me. We all struggle at one time or another with our skin. Specifically, with the skin on our faces. That can be breakouts, acnes scarring, dryness, uneven skin, you name it- we've all experienced some of it! Now, I'm no skincare guru, but I know my own skin inside out so I thought it might be helpful to chat to you about what kind of things I struggle with and what tends to help me, and you can pick and choose the products you might like to try..

Four years ago I moved to London from Stockport which is a small town, and not a busy city. The change into a city life, coupled with a busy and sometimes stressful new job in Physio for the NHS, had more of an impact on my skin that I might have anticipated. My chin became a war zone for spots, and I was it's main target! It seemed liked nothing I used or did would settle them down, and I know now it was because my lifestyle was just too hectic. What I needed was a calmer schedule, and a happier work/life balance. I find it so important to feel balanced in everything I'm doing or my skin really suffers.

Whilst the change in my lifestyle has helped my skin, I still break out and because of this, my skin insecurities are mainly due to spots. Huge, painful, red clusters of hate that gather on my chin and lips to make me miserable every month one week before my period is due. They last for about a week and for that week its all I can see. I hate being in public when they're bad because I feel like it's all anyone is looking at! I know that they aren't, and it's my own worry that makes me feel as though they are. Most of the time if I point them out, the other person will say "I hadn't even noticed until you said!" So that's nice to know. They can absolutely ruin my day though, if I let them; the ones that throb and can't be covered otherwise they leave a dried up make-up patch around them, which is like wearing a neon sign that says 'I HAVE A SPOT'.

Whatever you do, don't let your skin dictate how you feel about yourself. I promise you, you're beautiful no matter what, and I also promise you, it'll never look as bad as you feel it is.

Skincare has become such an important ritual to me and I really enjoy going through my skincare routine because it feels great, and I know I'm doing everything I can to try to keep my skin happy and healthy. I lean towards calming, cooling products that feel great to apply and have the benefits too. I'm a big fan of a mask! So find your hero products, not just the ones that do good, but the ones that feel good too.

I think after years of trying to get to know, to tame and to accept the patterns of my skin, I'm just about there with it. Yes, it still makes me feel utterly rubbish because when it happens I literally cannot control what it does, especially around the time where hormones are most involved! But day-to-day I do all the things we're told to do; drink plenty of water, avoid sugary foods, and use products that are gentle, natural and compliment the behaviour of my sometimes naughty skin! It's been a long process, and as I've become older, I take the rough (hormones) with the smooth (non-hormonal times) and just embrace what it wants to do.

I've put down below the products that I use, and have used for the past 2 years, and a little bit about them so you can see if it might help you too. I have used some affiliate links here.

Lixir Skin Electrogel Cleanser - I always feel this cleanses my skin so well, it detoxifys too. I use day and night.

Lixir Skin Vitamin C Paste - This is perfect for protecting and correcting skin. I use 2-3 times per week.

111 skin sub-zero de-puffing eye masks - They do exactly what they say on the tin. I struggle with puffiness when I'm tired and these do the trick every time.

Liz Earle Balancing Gel Mask - This product is absolutely beautiful. It nourishes and brightens my skin, and I find it an amazing product for post travel too.

Beauty Pie super stem cell moisture shot serum - I use this under my daily moisturiser when my skin is feeling dull or dry and it just gives it an extra lift.

Lixir Skin Universal Emulsion - The best moisturiser I have ever used. It's day, night and serum all in one and it's just beautiful and not too heavy.

111 Skin 3 phase anti blemish booster - This is my hero product. It gets to work on spots and blemishes straight away. I wake up with noticeable reduction in redness and size of spots.

Lixir Skin Night switch BHA/AHA - This is designed for problem skin. It's an exfoliant serum to give overall clearer skin. I use this 2-3 times per week under my Universal Emulsion.

Aurelia cell repair night oil - I have only used this 4 times so far but I am so impressed. It contains probiotics, and it reduces inflammation. I have applied it when my skin has broken out and the overall appearance and redness of my blemishes was much better in the morning. It also smells incredible.
