Lifestyle,

Super skin care

So here’s something a little different from me today. If you follow my Instagram/ social channels, you’ll be aware that I’ve struggled with my skin in the past. I finally feel like I’ve settled into the best skincare routine that I’ve ever had; believe me, a lot of trial and error and money has gone into this, to finally bring me to this place in my skincare journey. It is one of the most frustrating things to me, to ask advisors at skincare counters for their thoughts as to what would suit your skin, you then buy EVERYTHING they tell you to buy (because I for one, cannot put a price on spot free skin) and then 6 weeks in after using the products religiously, you’re in the same place as you were before you spent your savings for that mortgage on an entire rage of a skincare brand SWORN to clear it up. I am so unbelievably over this period in my life.

This is why I thought it might be a bit more useful to you guys if I put together my edit, so you can go and make more of an informed decision, because I’m not working on commission or trying to take your money for your mortgage; I just want your skin to be okay too.

I don’t exclusively use one brand; it’s a nice idea to be able to say “I only use X” but in reality, it doesn’t work that way because our skin needs so may different things and for many different reasons.

I use eight products, for various reasons, as my skin needs them. I’ve started to understand what my skin wants and when, so I hope this helps you to understand too.

I won’t put links to products so you can find the best retailers for you, as some aren’t UK based.

1.

Jan Marini skin research Bioglycolic Face Cleanser £37 (lasts approx 4 months)

This is a face wash, that goes onto dry skin and is washed off with a warm cloth. The glycolic acid in this wash keeps my blemishes at bay and resurfaces the skin. Its suitable for all skin types. It is gentle and soap free.

2.

Paula’s Choice skin perfecting 2% BHA Gel £25 (I haven’t finished my first bottle yet but 100mls is 1/4 used after 8 weeks)

This has been a recent addition to my collection, I’ve been using it for around 8 weeks now and I wouldn’t change it. It’s best for evening skin tone and unclogging pores. I use this instead of my moisturiser at night if my skin is playing up.

3.

Jan Marini Transformation Face Serum £59 (lasts approx 1 month depending on use, I use mainly twice per day)

This is hands down the most amazing face moisturiser I have ever tried. Its light, great coverage and instantly soothes. Its dubbed to rebuild and rejuvenate skin, protect against skin damage and leave the skin with a smoother texture- and I wholeheartedly agree. I think this is one of the main reasons for the positive change in appearance of my skin.

4.

Neal’s Yard Frankincense Intense lift serum £65 (Again, still using my first bottle, 6 weeks in and I have used 1/4 of the bottle, applying morning and night most days)

I can’t tell you how much I love this product. It has basically lifted my face. My skin is more toned, and feels much more even. I’d say this is best for raging skin. I’m 29, so a little late to the anti-aging party!

5.

Sebiaclear Cicapel anti-spot and anti-marks targeted active gel £9.40 (lasts approx 4 months, used sparingly and directly onto spots)

This little beauty is one I found in a French pharmacy. It’s my life saving spot treatment. It literally heals and shrinks a spot over night. It cools and soothes too if you’ve got a painful one!

6.

REN instant brightening beauty shot eye lift £36 (lasts approx 6 months used every day as you only need a tiny amount)

For me, this does exactly as its name would imply. I absolutely cannot leave the house without applying this one. Especially on a pair of puffy eyes. Its really refreshing too.

7.

Burberry beauty fresh glow £34 (lasts approx 3 months used every day)

This is one I couldn’t leave out; I suppose its more make up than skincare but its super gentle, and gives such a beautiful healthy glow if you are having a troublesome time with skin and don’t want to layer the make up on.

8.

Immunocologie Vital Clay mask £120 (lasts approx 9 months)

This product is beautiful. Bright green, but beautiful! It’s job is to extract impurities and promote hydration. I use this mask once per week as a bit of a treat. It always makes my skin feel so great, softer and fresh looking. It doesn’t break me out at all either, as some masks do!

I really hope some of these products might appeal to you- I’d love to answer any questions you might have about any of them too. You can either leave me a comment or head to my Instagram @ropesofholland to send me a direct message.

Thank you so much and I hope you’ve found this helpful.
